Hello Everyone,

Just getting started with 3d Train Studio. I am trying to expand the layout with additional panels and that tab does not seem to respond to anything. Is this because I am on the free version. I have searched high and low trying to figure it out but can't seem to find anything on this feature that comes up in an internet search.

Hello Paul Thomann,
welcome to the community.

The base plate that you start with is locked.
Locked items require a double click to select them.

When selected, you can use this menu to alter the shape of the plate:

To my knowledge the free version is sufficient for doing this.

Which tab is that, please?
All tabs should respond in the basic edition of the studio.

Kind regards
Goetz

Hi. If you're referring to the "Add Panel" button on the terrain tools menu, that doesn't add a "new" panel. If you go into the Landscaping tab in the catalogue, and open the "Panels" tab in there, you can drag one of the pre-made panels from that menu onto your baseboard, then go to the terrain tools, and click "Add Panel" and it merges the new one into the existing one.

Speaking from experience, because I made the same error!

Edit to add: Make sure you have the existing panel selected before you click the Add Panel button, then click the new panel you wish to merge in. Not the other way around!

Thanks Simon, now I get it. That completely explains it. I didn't realize it was being used for this purpose and had another purpose in mind. I am trying to put my layout on the software and it is modular in nature so I thought I could just create existing panels and stick them together to form the whole. The program can still do the same thing by adding points which I just found a little cumbersome since my layout is so large. I can work through that though.

as indeed you can.

Look at the modules in the "landscape" category for some fine examples:
