Can you use a variable value in a caption?  if so, how do you do it?

It's part from the demo layout which can be downloaded here. This is the only way to put the content of a referred variable into a caption. It is not possible to assign a variable to the caption in that sense, that the caption content will be automatically changed as soon as the variable itself is changed.
