track on a slope

Hello Geoff,

  • first select all track pieces that you want included in the slope

  • now click on the blue triangle at the end which you want to raise or lower.

  • a gismo appears in its place. Use the blue arrow to lift or lower this end.
(A selected arrow changes to yellow, hence the different colour in the screenshot)

Please let me know if this helped or if you'd like to get further explanations

How to round off the transition in and out of the slope:

Ideally, the two pieces of track that meet at the transition point should be of similar length.

Select any piece, open the Positioning menu and turn off Automatic height adjustment.

Remove either one of the two elements. Then select the blue triangle at the end of the second piece.
In the middle of the gismo you'll find a grey square.

Grab the square and drag it to the other open end until it snaps in place

A curve is formed automatically

Kind regards

Thanks Goertz.

That was good information. The next thing is, can I automatically fill under the raised track?

Thanks again

Hello Geoffj,
indeed, you can!

  • Select all raised track pieces,

  • open the terrain tools menu (F8) and

  • click the ramps and embankments button.

Rampe.jpg

This opens a properties menu where you may set the width of the top as well as the gradient for the slopes.
Don't forget to confirm your settings before you close that window.

The tool can create ditches as well as empankments.

Goertz, when I grab the grey square sometimes I get a slight hump. Any way around that?

Hello Geoffj

This happens when the track tries to follow the terrain.
Deactivate the automatic height adjustment for the time being either in the track edit menu ...

suppressing terrain follow mode.jpg

... or temporarily by holding down the ctrl button.

Thanks Goertz. I'm going well with all this. Now I have made up the layout as on the layout book on page 65, however when I got to join the loop it doesn't quite line up. Almost but not quite. Is there any way to stretch the track a millimetre or so?

Sorry to be a nuisance.

I re-read one of your responses above and fixed it. That's great.
