Good evening Neo

In the last few days I seem to have developed some issues when running the program. Loading the program from the app takes longer than normal. I enter my email and then have to wait several seconds before I am able to input my password. Once in the program it takes much longer to load a layout than it did a few days ago. In the same vein selecting items from the catalogue also takes much longer than it did, as does copy and paste from items already in the layout. Backing up has also become a much more protracted affair. If I load a layout directly from the backed up copy in the directory it loads quickly. This brings me to conclude that I might have an issue with the program and wonder therefore whether I should reinstall the program in an attempt to resolve these issues. Before doing so I would like your opinion please.

Clearly there is something not quite right. What with things taking much longer to process or the screen going very pale and the program temporarily not responding I need to do something. For your information the directory that I back up to is C:\Users\pboye\AppData\Local\3D-Modellbahn Studio V9\Catalog. I had an issue with this recently and added the word Catalog at the end assuming that this had been there before. Is this where the problem lies?

Your advice on this and a possible way to resolve it would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Peter

Following on from my comments and observations above. When logging in it can take up to 16 seconds for the licensing wizard to move allowing me to input my email and password, getting on to the forum takes around 18seconds, copy and paste an item already in the layout 18seconds, select an item from the catalogue 18 seconds between each category and so it goes on. None of these were issues up and until last Sunday. The only thing that I can recall having done on Sunday was to uninstall V8.5 as I no longer use this.

Your view on these matters would be appreciated.

Thank you

You might have some hardware or software problems if all actions take several seconds. Please check your computer and your Internet connection.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have checked my internet and there appears nothing wrong there. Ultra fast broadband with both download and upload speeds of 104mps.

This particular computer runs a number of high end programs all without issues. Until Sunday I had no problems with MBS, everything ran very quickly. This makes me wonder if in uninstalling V8.5 it has caused an issue with V9, hence my thought to uninstall V9 and then reinstall it. I have all layouts backup independently of the computer.

There is nothing I can do from my side, there were no changes to 3D Train Studio in the last days.

Hallo Peter,

I can only give you some general advice. If your PC is running slowly, you should first open the Task Manager to see which programmes are using the most resources. Then check for malware infections and run a virus scan. Make sure your system and drivers are up to date, free up storage space, delete temporary files and disable unnecessary autostart programmes.

Hi Neo

The mystery becomes more complicated. I have three computers, my main desktop PC, a gaming laptop and a standard laptop. MBS is loaded on both my PC and the gaming laptop, both have the same issue. I therefore loaded the program, V9 on to my standard laptop and loaded one of the standard layouts that appeared. It loaded relatively quickly. I then began to work through the catalogue opening different folders, the online catalogue, then the road vehicles, then cars all open quickly until I came to selecting limousines and only then did I get the scrolling square and it took 16 seconds to load that that particular folder.

In an attempt to verify if the problem lies with my internet I have arranged for my son to take my standard laptop and run the program at his house, he has 800mps download speed. Clearly if he has no issues there then I would concur that the problem lies with my internet and I can take steps to rectify it. I will let you know the outcome in due course.

Kind regards

Hi streit_ross

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my predicament. As you will see from the reply sent to Neo this issue is not quite as simple as it might first appear. I had already checked each of the elements that you have suggested and there is no issue. I've now done the same with my gaming laptop and that too has no apparent issues but MBS is not running smoothly on that either. The problem fluctuates. Sometimes things will load quickly other times they take for ever.

I've just had a call from my son who took my standard laptop this evening and ran the program at his home. He has just sent me a video with no issues whatsoever. I would be interested to know what sort of download/upload speeds other members are working with. I thought 104mbps was OK, clearly 800mbps is no problem so it looks like I might have to speak to my internet provider as 104mbps is clearly now not sufficient to download items from the online catalogue with any speed.

Kind regards

Peter

100 mbps is sufficient for the MBS, the catalog files are not so big. It might be a connection problem related to your provider/location.

Please perform the following steps:

  1. Open the terminal in Windows

  2. Enter ping www.3d-modellbahn.de and post the results

  3. Enter tracert www.3d-modellbahn.de and post the results

Just had a call from my son along with a video. He loaded the program and ran it without incident at 800mbps so clearly 104mbps is not coping. Now I have uninstalled V9 but retained the layout files and the catalogue. After reinstallation the same issue was present. As I have all my layouts backed up I think a full uninstall is now an option just to see if it is the catalogue file that has got corrupted.

Kind regards

Your connection to the studio server is fine, this is not the cause of your problems. Do you have disabled (temporarilly) any firewalls or virus scanners on your system?

No I've already checked. I have just remembered that Windows did an update on Sunday. Whether this is part of the issue I do not know. I am now going to do a complete uninstall of both the program, layouts and catalogue, I have everything saved on another hard drive, and will then reload the program and see what that does.

I've completed my uninstall and reinstall. A layout now loads much quicker however when selecting folders in the catalogue some will open very quickly others are very slow. Tomorrow I will check my gaming laptop at my son's house and see if there are any issues with it and 800mbps internet speeds. If there are not then perhaps my answer is to get my own internet speed increased to 300mbps. I will let you know the outcome.

Hi @Neo @streit_ross

After some exhausting checks it would seem that the issue can only be with my internet connection although just what it might be escapes me. I have come to this conclusion because my son took my old laptop to a house with only 50mbps download and everything ran perfectly. So in conclusion my PC, my gaming laptop and my old laptop all have issuers at my home but no where else.

As a result of this I have made extensive checks on my internet connection. Download and upload speeds are fine. I have connected my PC to the router via an ethernet cable, rebooted the router and checked all settings, I can see nothing out of the ordinary. Having loaded the MBS program and one of my layouts I noted that it did load slightly quicker but not as quickly as before. Once in the program I have found that by selecting a folder in the catalogue each element takes some time to load all of the models. This is true for each of the folders that I open. Once opened if I return to any of these they seem to open immediately. Having saved the layout, shut the program down and then gone back in each of the folders previously opened they do so almost immediately. Any that have not been opened still take some time to do so. Clearly if that is all it takes to sort out this issue then I will continue to work through each catalogue folder, but I am still left to ponder why this has happened to my gaming laptop, which rarely uses MBS and why also on my old laptop all three of which recently performed Windows updates. Moving from a layout to connect to the forum still takes around 18 seconds and once there about the same amount of time to open the forum folders. No other programs on any of the machines are experiencing any issues.

I have an I.T. specialist phoning me either this afternoon or tomorrow and he will connect remotely to my PC and see if he can find any faults. Once again I will let you know his findings.

Kind regards

Peter

All online catalog data (layouts, models, folders...) are getting locally cached by the studio for some time. You can delete the cache in the app settings, in case you want to test your internet connection again.

Thank you, my apologies for the next question but where do I find the app setting for the MBS program. I have right clicked on the app icon but non of the items shown suggest how to locate the cache.

I've cleared the cache, reloaded the program, still the same issue. It is much quicker to load a layout from File Manager and my saved directory than it is to load it from the program but still some of the catalogue folders take too long to load.

@Neo Good morning

I am still waiting for my I.T. guy to look over my PC but another interesting fact. Having received an message a few moment ago from another forum member I went to the "Go to this Post" and it too took some time to open on my mobile phone. I know you have said that the link to the MBS server is not an issue but it does seem very strange that the only issues that I have with either my PC, laptop and now mobile phone are only when I try to connect to the MBS server. Most puzzling!!

Kind regards

Peter

Hi Neo

Yes I do use Wifi on my mobile phone and no the connection speed does not change. The system that I use is Netgear Orbi with separate satellites around the house so there is no loss of signal anywhere. The main router is in my study and only 3 mtrs away from my PC. So far I have had no issues with anything other than MBS and these issues have only manifested themselves since Sunday last.
