if you don't mind commentary being in German, this may help:

Kind regards
Goetz

Afterthought: It isn't what I had hoped. My apologies.
I'm mumbling too much and you don't see what buttons I'm pushing.

No, Goetz, I don't mind the commentary being in German although it was 1999 when I last used the language. I knew enough to get around the transport system and order in restaurants for instance.

I am sure that with a little guesswork I will get by, although my hearing is very poor now.

Thanks for your help and I hope that this year is better for all than the last one.

Anyway,

you begin by selecting the ground plate.
This base plate is usually fixed. You'll need to double click it to select it.

When the plate is your selected object, look for the properties window. It holds your landscaping tools.

Morning Goetz,

Yes, I am back as predicted.

When I click on the baseboard the different plains movement tool shows then whatever I try I can't get the reference dots to show as in your video.

So this is what I am stuck on.

By the way, I have subscribed to your YouTube channel.

Thanks as always.

Hello Eric,

first, select the landscaping mode (circle)
next, set your brush size, the roll off width and the shape

then activate the paint mode (arrow)

The density of the dot pattern is affected by the grid size of your ground plate

Thank you very much for doing that I never expected you to go to all that trouble and it's most appreciated.

I will have a more detailed look at the video later but at first glance, it looks as they say in Deutschland "Prima".

Just one more thing I need to ask how do I do rivers, lakes and valleys?

Thank you again for all your trouble.

By raising everything around those areas above your intended water level.
You cannot create negative heights

(That is what my previous, German video was all about)

So this means that if I put a bridge on the flat level of the base then it will look to float on the water, or is there any way of lifting the entire tracks above the base in one go?

Sorry for all the questions.

No, I don't think so I love a challenge.

When I was an apprentice engineer all those years ago we were taught that the word "Can't" is not in the English language not should it exist in any other language either.

This has always been my motto ever since, and I know that you will always do your best to help.

So no worries as Crocodile Dundee used to say.

I had forgotten about the ex-Governor of California.

On a more serious note, it's a pity that you're other YouTube tutorial on landscaping doesn't have any on-screen instructions in English like the one you have done today.

It's just a thought for any future ones.

Hi Hubert

I have just taken a quick look at the video and it's over an hour in length.

You don't know how far into the video the raising of the ground level is so I can watch that part and save some time.

Then later I can watch all of it at my leisure when time permits.

Thanks again.

taking the trouble

especially when you take under consideration, that all you needed to do, was:

  • start the video
  • place the tip of your mouse pointer over the timeline at the bottom
  • move the mouse slowly left and right (without pressing any buttons!)
  • observe what's shown in the small preview picture over your mouse pointer
  • and try to figure out, if any of those small images resemble "landscaping" in any way.

Hi Goetz,

You know you look after me like my late father.

I did find the place but I am more baffled than ever even after using subtitles.

Do you think that it be easier for me to try and use the one which is yours even though the dialogue is in German?
